Swati Soni explores the world of storytelling sessions, which has inspired many startups to carve their own stories...........

"In a world where people have a lot of choices, the story may be the deciding factor.” This quote from Nick Morgan is so relevant to startups, several of whom have gone through roller-coaster rides on the way to establishing themselves.Having witnessed some of these roller-coaster rides, aspirants are now learning from the stories of successful entrepreneurs who have been through similar journeys.

Just as Apple and HP have inspired many to build their own brand, stories are a powerful tool to fueling desires through their embedded messages and lessons. “Stories are indispensible tools that help many aspirants to learn and understand the dark and the good side of any business, a story has a metaphoric effect and eventually the budding aspirants refrain from the same route taken by other entrepreneurs,” explains Anshul Dave, CEO and managing partner of Oceans Bridge.

Startup storytelling sessions are gaining popularity even among tier-II and tier-III cities, bridging the gap between aspirations and goals of an entrepreneur-in-making when access to management sessions are remote.“Sometimes experiences through storytelling sessions come in handier than management lessons, and the reason is the empathy connect that the narrator and listeners build as they both share common goals. These stories bring about the psychological readiness and provide an individual with the direction that could help them achieve goals,” says Ketki Parekh, performance enhancement trainer and founder of Insight.

Startup storytelling sessions have many benefits. They act as a networking platform and a talent hunting ground. For many startup aspirants these sessions could be therapeutic because it’s a meeting place for the like-minded. Pointing out the significance of storytelling for startups, Sanjay Enishetty, founder of 50K Ventures says, “We have introduced The Garage Stories, a one-of-its-kind event, where renowned startups from local cities will address aspiring startups to only discuss the dark side of their journey and where they went wrong. This will be a huge takeaway for budding startup aspirants.”

Startups and stories related to it will always work at a tangent, and through these stories one may create one’s own story, to be narrated in the coming years, adding value not only to your startup but also for others.

What’s your unique story for your startup? We would love to hear from you.
