Behavioural rules in entrepreneurship

Hey! Are you behaving properly?

Each day is an acid test for an entrepreneur. Working odd hours, taking risks, thinking out of the box and the list seems to be never- ending. Patience is undoubtedly an essential ingredient in the professional space. Which business strategy could work for your company? Who would you pitch exactly? Who would be the ‘angels’ and the likes?

To help you keep your problems at bay, we at I Am An Entrepreneur bring some small tips on how you could manage your business well:

In a candid chat, Jalaja Hariprasad, founder of Influx Consulting, a Bangalore-based consulting organisation tells Gairika Mitra about the guidelines to entrepreneurial behaviour. Read on to find out more:

How unique is your business model? How is it different from so many other players in the market?

My company is two decades old now. We kick-started as a company designed for ‘executive search’ across India. I was always keen on collaborating with agencies towards entrepreneurial development. I decided to do something that would leave a deep impression on our customers. Being a Professional Certified Coach(PCC) accredited to International Coach Federation(ICF) and an equipped Executive Coach in Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching, I got into full fledged leadership coaching.

We are well-trained professionals and use special techniques to impart our training. As Peter Drucker once famously said, “The higher you go, the only thing you could change is behaviour. Leaders of the 21st century need to know how to ask more than how to tell.”

Take us through the process of your mentoring. Who all are eligible for this coaching session?

I make an effort to coach business owners, senior management and middle management teams on leadership behaviour, which stretches to four to six months. We try to coach about eight to 15 members at one go. In case, the number stretches beyond 15, we split it in two halves and complete the session into two sessions.

Are your sessions engaging? Is there a certain format of going about it?

Jalaja HariprasadWe do organise in-house workshops that usually stretch in between four to six months, sometimes a little longer. We focus on elements of organisation behaviour such as Relationship Management, Team Cohesiveness, Negotiation/Listening Skills, Importance of Values/Culture, Women Leadership and Growth. I also use Belbin Assessments to help people understand how to best participate in a team.

Do the methods you mentioned require some special expertise to deal with?

Yes, one needs to have a special training and certification. Being in Talent Acquisition for over 20 years, I can sense the industry demands. The Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder centred coaching method delivers measurable and visible results in behaviour changes.

While Belbin is used to help coaching participants understand, they best contribute in a team.

These days even the smallest product comes with an ‘After Sales Service.’ Once the training is complete, how do you ensure the people attending your workshops would benefit?

After we are done assessing our team, I provide a one-on-one coaching. This is to ensure strong team working relationships, identify and bridge the gaps for a productive team.

Being associated with brands like Tata, BPL Telecom and HCL Technologies, what made you think that you could train entrepreneurs?

Jalaja HariprasadServing the industry during the initial years of my career, I decided to do something that would create a difference among the masses. After a few days of research, I could shape up my ideas and that was when I decided to take up behavior/leadership coaching. Our days of hard work have gained the confidence of a lot of people from the industry.

Lastly, what piece of advice would you like to fellow entrepreneurs like you who want to make a difference?

All I would like to say is go with your dreams, leverage yourself, slowly and gradually you will realise that the best awaits you. Get to know more about her on www.influxhr.com.
